Rechilus About a Child

There are many times when rechilus is assur, forbidden, even about a child. Explains the Chafetz Chaim, let’s say I go over to a certain gentleman and I say, you know, I just saw Reuven’s kid was pounding your child, or Reuven’s kid was making fun of your child, or it’s a shame the way Reuven’s son embarrasses your son. Explains the Chafetz Chaim, what’s going to happen? You will greatly feel the pain of your son, likely you’ll go over to that boy or that boy’s father and what’s going to come out from this is a machlokes. Rare is it that anything good will come out of it. And explains the Chafetz Chaim, that would be fully in the category of rechilus.

Now if there is a toeles, if there is some good that could come out of it – let’s say I could stop the abuse or in fact it really is wrong what the child is doing to your son, et cetera – that is a different situation, and it’s l’toeles, and it would be under circumstances permitted. But in most situations it’s just children’s games and things that boys say or that children do. And if I tell you that this is what So-and-So did to your son, either you’re going to go over to that boy and create an issue there or maybe to the father and memaila, unless there’s a specific toeles, a specific good that’s going to come out, it’s fully within the category of rechilus and it’s assur.
