Rechilus About Relatives

I am prohibited from saying to you that Reuven spoke badly about you, Reuven intends to do something bad to you; that is called rechilus. Explains the Chafetz Chaim, in addition to that I’m not allowed to tell you that Reuven spoke badly about a close relative of yours. If I say to you that Reuven spoke badly about your son, Reuven spoke badly about your brother, your mother, your sister, explains the Chafetz Chaim, this is still in the same category of rechilus. Why? Because obviously you’re close to your relatives. You’re going to feel the pain. You’re going to feel anger. And you’re going to want to retaliate against him.

Explains the Chafetz Chaim, as I’m not allowed to tell you that Reuven said something bad about you, I’m not allowed to say that Reuven said something bad about any of your very close relatives, because that’s also within the category of rechilus.
